This page explains how to ask Yella to delete your account and the personal data associated with it. It applies to the Yella app (Android and iOS) and to the web app at yella.app, both published by Yella.
Send an email to hi@yella.app with the subject line “Delete my account”, from the email address your Yella account is registered to. If you cannot access that inbox, include your Yella tag and phone number so we can verify it is you.
You can also use our contact form with the same subject line. We will confirm the request by email before deleting anything, and complete it within 30 days.
A Yella account is a member of savings groups where other people's money is recorded. We can only delete an account once it holds no open obligations, so we will first ask you to:
If any of these are open, we will tell you which, and the request stays on hold until they are closed.
Contributions, payouts and loan repayments are shared records of a group — every other member's balance depends on them. Those transaction records are kept, but your name on them is replaced with “Former member” so they no longer identify you. We may also keep a minimal record of the deletion request itself, and any data we are required to retain by law (for example for fraud prevention or accounting), for up to 5 years after the request. Anonymised records are kept indefinitely.
You do not have to delete your account to remove some of your data. In the app, under Account, you can change or remove your profile photo, phone number and bio at any time. Contact us at the address above to ask about anything else.
Questions about deletion or about your data go to hi@yella.app. Our full Privacy Policy describes what we collect and why.
